The Presidential Election of 1912 -- Student ActivitiesBy completing the activities, students will be able to organize and interpret information using different political cartoons.Students will be given a couple of political cartoons about the election of 1912 to interpret and explain using their background knowledge about the events and significance of the election.
Complete the following activities:
Activity 1 (Textbook Reading) Read pages in textbook that cover the Election of 1912. Chapter 17 Section 4, pages 534-537. Be prepared to discuss.
Activity 2(Research) Explore and read through the information regarding the events, issues, result and significance of the Election of 1912 using the websites listed below. Use the guiding questions to focus your research as you go through the websites. Write out what you find and be prepared to share your information and findings in a round-table discussion. Written information will be passed in.

Activity 4 (Examine Political Cartoons)
Links to several political cartoons from the time are given to examine. Analyze and critique the messages found in at least 8 of the cartoons regarding the events leading up to and surrounding the Election of 1912. Then participate in a Discussion Forum within the Activity 4 page.
Activity 5(Assessment)
This assessment will be completed in class. It will present you with at least three political cartoons from the time (at least one being one that you have seen already) and you will be asked to analyze and interpret each of the cartoons using what you have learned about the Election of 1912 as your content.
